Attendance Policies

When a Student is Tardy

When a student is tardy to school for any reason, that student must bring a note from home to present to the teacher.

When a Student is Absent

When a student has missed a class or classes, that student must take a note from the parent/guardian to the Attendance Office.  The note should have the following information:

  1. Date of Absence
  2. Reason for Absence
  3. First and Last Name, Birthday and Grade of Student
  4. Signature of Parent or Guardian

After three (3) days, each absence that has not been cleared with a note from home will be changed to truant. To avoid truant absences, you MUST turn in a note to clear your absence at the attendance office.  Please see our Stop, Drop and Go Re-Admit Policy.

Re-admit slips will ONLY be issued to students who have been SUSPENDED from school. The re-admit slip which the student receives must be presented to the teacher at the beginning of each class.  The attendance office opens at 7:30 a.m. daily and issues re-admits from 7:30 a.m. until 7:55 a.m.  Re-admits are not issued after lunch break.

Early Dismissal

A student who must leave campus for an appointment before the end of the school day must bring a note from the parent/guardian explaining the reason BEFORE classes begin at 7:30 a.m.  A student will receive a permit to leave grounds from the attendance office only after verification of the request.  The permit to leave grounds must be signed by parents/guardian or doctor and used by the student as a re-admit the following day. Phone calls from parents are not accepted to release students.

If a parent/guardian comes to the Attendance Office with a request for a student to leave early, you must be on the student’s emergency information card and you will be required to produce a valid picture identification card.  A student cannot and will not be released by a telephone request.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation this school year.  If there are any questions or concerns you may contact the Attendance office at (562) 630-0142.

Help Your Child Succeed in School

Building a Habit of Good Attendance!

Parents, guardians and students need to understand the importance of attendance starting in early grades and continuing through high school.  Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.

  • Attendance matters for doing well in school and life starting in pre-kindergarten.
  • Absences can add up before you know it.
  • Poor attendance is not just about unexcused absences or children willfully skipping school - excused absences can effect performance too.
  • As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your child develops the habit of regular attendance.
  • If you are facing tough challenges related to health care access, unstable housing, poor transportation or lack of food, please seek out support from our Don Community!
